Trademarks
A trademark is a foundation for brand building. Trademark registration confers the exclusive right to use a mark in business. A well managed trademark is an investment.
Besides words and images, a trademark may also be any symbol that can be presented graphically. Examples of possible trademarks include the appearance of a product or its packaging, slogans, sounds, moving images, and even colours and odour.
Companies should review their trademark portfolios regularly. Are there plans to use the mark for new products or services? Will business acquisitions, new agents or enlarged operations lead to use of the mark over a larger geographical area? It is wise to conduct a regular review of current and projected market areas and product ranges to ensure the overall coverage of protective measures.
